Choreography and Performance: Eun Jung and Guillermo
Music: Fünf
Duration: 1 min.
Primere: 60×60 Dance @ The Winter Garden at the World Financial Center, New
Originally the work was created for the 60×60 Dance Performance at the World Financial Center’s Winter Garden theater in November 2009. We received one-minute of playful and dynamic music by Fünf that we had to compose a dance to. With an inspiration of Donna Uchizono’s composition class during the summer of 2008, we used one of her class exercises to build complex movement phrases and randomly put them together.
About the composer
Fünf are five multi-instrumentalists who, while regular performers with live bands, are proponents of using the recording studio as an instrument. As a result, Fünf compositions evolve as if they were live band pieces, dynamic and musical, taking many unexpected detours. Each piece begins as a “seed track” created by one member. It is then emailed to the next member. The next member adds new elements – acoustic/electronic instruments, samples – and sends it to the next member.
Dance 60×60
Pairs 60 composers with 60 choreographers for an electrifying one-hour multimedia performance. This one-of-a-kind performance consists of 60 modern dance pieces set to 60 different and brand-new one-minute compositions. Dance influences range from ballet and tango to postmodern movements, while music includes medieval chant, neo-romantic chamber music, jazz, pop, electronica and everything but the kitchen sink.
